Safety and Health in Indonesia the same age with history of Indonesia. Although, was not related with occupational. At 17th century, Ducth came in Indonesia, then Indonesia produced agriculture and mining. The small Industry growth fast, many companies felt occupational safety was important to protect their invest. Until 19th century, situation did not change. Boiler regulation made in 1853, 120 unit of boilers have use in this time, in 1898 2.277 unit of boilers.

The first Electric regulation (instalation and maintenance) issued in 1890. Because many industries was build, in 1905 the Ducth goverment issued "Veiligheids Reglement" with regulation and manual then revised in 1910, "Veiligheids Toezich" supervised this implementation. Rule of medicine, amunition, weapon and explosive transoprt made in 1907. Regulation of Mining Supervising issued in 1916 include Safety and Health at mining industry.

After Indonesia independence on August 17, 1945 Occupational Safety and Health was growth fast according with Indonesia's culture and social. "Lembaga Kesehatan dan Keselamatan Kerja" build in 1957. "Veiligheids Reglement" was change in 1970 with Regulation No.1/1970 (Occupational Safety). "Ikatan Hygiene Perusahaan, Kesehatan dan Keselamatan Kerja (Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health Council) organized in 1973, the mission is unity all Indonesian Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health Professionals.The Center Of Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Occupational Safety and Health Laboratory was build in 1969.

The first Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Occupational Safety and Health education in Indonesia open at Sebelas Maret University of Surakarta (Solo) in 1984. Then Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Occupational Safety and Health - Airlangga University of Surabaya and Public Health Faculty - University of Indonesia.
